Who we are
BuckTrends ("we" or "us") is operated in New York. If you have any question about your data, email us at support@bucktrends.com.
What we collect
- Account info: your name, email address, and password. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, never the password itself.
- Billing: payments are handled by Stripe. We store only your Stripe customer ID and your card's brand and last 4 digits, never the full card number.
- Login details: the time, IP address, and a short device summary (like "Mobile - iOS - Safari") of your most recent login. We don't keep a login history.
- Active sessions: while you're signed in, the IP address and browser your session is using.
- Cameras: the exact location you enter for each camera, plus the zip code, county, state, city, hunting unit, and time zone we look up from it.
- Sightings: the date and time, the original filename, the text we read from the photo's date/time stamp, and the weather, moon, and sun data we work out for it.
Photos and videos
We delete the original file you upload right after we've processed it, and always within 24 hours. We keep a resized copy, with any location data embedded in the file removed. For videos we usually keep only a single frame.
Kept copies are stored at long, random web addresses that aren't listed or linked anywhere public. Anyone who has an image's exact link could view that image, so treat those links like you would a private photo.
Your hunting locations are private
Your camera locations are never shown to other users, and we never sell them. To provide the service we do send camera coordinates to the services listed below: exact coordinates to the US Census Bureau and NY DEC, and coordinates rounded to about 1 km to Visual Crossing.
How we use your data
Only to run BuckTrends: to analyze your sightings, look up weather and location details, keep your account secure, and handle billing. We don't show ads, and we never sell your data.

Anonymous statistics
When you delete your account, your sightings are converted into anonymous counts by area and time period (for example, "3 sightings in this zip code at dawn in October"), with no link to you, your bucks, or your cameras. We don't publish or sell them. We also keep a weather cache stored by area of about 1 km, which isn't linked to any person.
How long we keep data
- We keep your data while your account is active.
- You can delete your account anytime from the Billing page. That immediately removes your account, bucks, sightings, cameras, and photos.
- Our backups may still hold deleted data for up to 30 days.
- Our logs are kept for 14 days, with personal details like IP addresses, email addresses, and locations removed.
- Stripe keeps its own billing records, as the law requires.
Cookies and browser storage
We use only what the site needs to work: a session cookie that keeps you signed in, a security cookie that protects your forms, and a couple of small settings saved in your browser (like remembering that you dismissed the daylight saving time reminder). Cloudflare Turnstile runs a bot check on the signup and password reset forms. Stripe's payment form on the Billing page sets cookies to help prevent fraud. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Your choices
- Correct your sightings, change a buck's photo, and delete any buck, sighting, or camera anytime in the app.
- Change your password anytime with "Forgot password" on the login page. To correct your name or email address, email us.
- Delete your whole account from the Billing page.
- Email support@bucktrends.com to get a copy of your data.
Age
BuckTrends is for people 16 and older.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, passwords are stored only in hashed form, and our backups are kept in private, encrypted storage.
Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we'll email you before they take effect and update the date at the top of this page.
